Apply to Forecast's Mentorship Program 2020–21

The call for proposals for Forecast’s fifth edition is now open! Forecast is an international mentorship program and interdisciplinary network for knowledge transfer that offers artists and creative thinkers the chance to work with accomplished mentors toward bringing their projects to fruition. Forecast transcends neatly defined disciplines and genres to carve out space for the questions on the minds of the next generation of trailblazers. Creative practitioners and cultural producers working in all creative fields anywhere in the world are encouraged to apply with projects that could benefit from the expertise of one of the mentors in this edition, and from that mentor’s unique approach to material and knowledge production.

Forecast selects six different mentors for each edition, all accomplished in their respective fields, who determine the nature and content of every iteration. The mentors in Forecast’s fifth edition are chef Manu Buffara (Brazil), curator Koyo Kouoh (Cameroon), writer and researcher Evgeny Morozov (Belarus), visual artist and theater director Markus Öhrn (Sweden), musician Du Yun (China), and photographer and filmmaker Tobias Zielony (Germany). Find out more about each mentor’s field of expertise and what he or she is looking for in a potential mentee on the website.

The deadline for applications is March 1, at 11:59pm CET. The selection process is two-tiered. First, the mentors carefully review all proposals and invite three candidates each to workshop with the mentor and present their ideas at the Forecast Forum in Berlin, taking place July 13–19, 2020. At the conclusion of the Forum, each mentor chooses one mentee. The six mentees will receive a production budget and artist fee, and will have nine months to bring their ideas to fruition. In addition to independent, ongoing exchanges with their mentors, this period also includes a one-on-one work-stay with the mentor at an international partner institution. The final projects will be presented to the public at the Forecast Festival, taking place April 6–10, 2021. The Forum and the Festival both take place at radialsystem, Berlin. Forecast can only accept applications submitted in English via the online application form. Please consult the FAQ and Guidelines sections on our website for more details before applying.
