SILENT SPEECH focuses on the human stories behind the greater conflicts: on stories from soldiers and civilians; on the many stories that didn’t find their way into the media, but which linger in the daily life of the everyday man. Personal tales – true or false, complete or incomplete - which were born in times of conflict.

During a war situation people are always on one side or the other, a good side or a bad side depending on whose side they’re on. Both, however, have their own record of the facts about which we normally hear just one side. Life as it is … in wartime. This residency period addresses the themes of these possible stories rooted in harsh times. We challenge artists to research and explore this theme. Artists working within this framework, whether they deal with contemporary global conflicts or research the historical dynamics of the Great War, are welcome to take part in this programme.

The residency will start on Tuesday 16th of August 2016 and will last 8 weeks.

Het Entrepot sincerely believes in the importance of synergies with the local (art)community and therefore encourages its residents to develop their project proposals as well as the actual residency with this ideal in mind.

This program focuses on young professional and emerging artists, under the age of 35.
